How Much Do Product Marketing Managers Make?
An Ex-Google PMM's take on product marketing.
Hi, my name is Henry, and in this post, I’ll break down how much Product Marketing Managers (PMMs) make depending on their level of experience.
Salary Breakdown by PMM Levels:
Associate PMM (APM): $60k–$80k base + equity
PMM: $100k–$120k base + equity
Senior PMM: $140k–$160k base + equity
Group PMM: $180k–$200k base + equity
Director of PMM: $220k–$240k base + equity
As a PMM progresses, responsibilities grow from supporting teams to owning entire product platforms and mentoring others.
Career Progression
APM: Starts by owning a product feature.
PMM: Owns a product and supports the broader team.
Senior PMM: Owns multiple products and mentors junior PMMs.
Group PMM: Oversees product platforms and leads PMM teams.
Director of PMM: Manages multiple platforms and guides the overall PMM team.
After Director of PMM, possibilities include moving up to VP of Marketing or CMO, though this depends on the size and structure of the company.
Conclusion
Salaries vary based on company size and level of responsibility. In general, as you move up the PMM ladder, you'll see a significant increase in base salary and equity compensation.
